In the first episode, it was shown how the King and the ghost met each other. Each episode of the show ran for nearly 52 minutes.

The plot of the show was based on a wise and famous King, King Vikramaditya and a ghost by the name Betaal. The series was based on the book Baital Pachisi, written some 2500 years ago by Mahakavi Somdev Bhatt meaning 25 tales of Betaal. It starred Arun Govil and Sajjan in the titular role of King Vikramaditya and Betaal respectively. Vikram-Aur-Betaal was a 1985 Hindi, mythological and fantasy series that was created by Sagar Arts Limited and produced by Ramanand Sagar.
